where design transforms healing

Rebuilding interior spaces for children and families facing a medical crisis to strengthen and encourage recovery

our room recipients

meet chloe

Chloe and two of her friends were at lunch when she began to feel ill. She collapsed and was quickly rushed to the hospital. Two days later, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL. She was admitted to the children's unit at INOVA and the treatments began soon after. Chloe has undergone several surgeries to place and replace her port, multiple spinal taps and bone marrow aspirations, and uncountable transfusions and testing.

We were beyond honored to provide Chloe and her sister Kelsie with new spaces for them to rest and heal!

meet gabe

Gabe was just 2 years old when his parents noticed a swollen painful lymph node in his groin. Tests were performed to confirm high risk Pre-b cell ALL (a high risk leukemia). He had a port placed and started a long year of intense chemo.

Gabriel and his THREE older brothers, all received new rooms from Savvy Giving by Design VA.

meet dylan

At the age of 2, Dylan was diagnosed with a very high risk form of Leukemia (ALL). His treatment plan consisted of 3.5 years of chemotherapy. He has undergone more than 25 spinal taps, multiple blood transfusions and bone marrow aspirations. This little boy is a fighter! He, along with his twin brother Tyler, received complete room makeovers from Savvy Giving by Design VA.

meet gabby

Gabby was diagnosed with brain cancer at just 9 months old. Since then, she has undergone 4 surgeries and over 500 doses of chemo. Gabby is now 7 and was the recipient of our first room makeover!

what

We select a child facing a medical crisis and transform their bedroom to improve the health and function and design at no cost to the family.

why

By transforming a deserving child’s room we have an opportunity to make changes that promote healing both physically and emotionally.

who

Children 18 or younger in Virginia facing a medical crisis. If the child has siblings we will also design their bedrooms, as they are equally impacted during this time.

ways to get involved

why I’m Involved

As a mother to three awesome boys, one of whom was diagnosed with brain cancer five years ago, I understand the real impacts that a devastating illness can have on a family. My son, Isaiah, is now cancer free and it’s my honor to startup the Virginia Chapter of Savvy Giving by Design to help children just like Isaiah.
